Thanksgiving crept up on us and has now passed. This past month has been a complete blur but one thing I do know for sure, I am grateful for a few things. I hope you also took some time to reflect and be thankful for the little things that we have in life. There’s so much in our day to day lives, that we sometimes think about the big things but in reality, it comes down to the little things too.
Favorite Accomplishment~ This week I completed my first 5k!!! I have never been a ‘runner’ and running a 5k was always on my bucket list.
One day back in July I woke up and said, “I think I’m going to start running.” Well, that lasted for about 2 months. Haha Fast forward 2 months, I was discussing with a friend (who is a runner) that I wanted to sign up for the Willow Tree Turkey Trot 5k in Downtown Providence (keep in mind I hadn’t run in 2 months). Before I knew it, 2 other girlfriends from high school who were coming into town for the holiday, decided to sign up too! We were all in this together.
I know knew, there was NO turning back for me. I trained for 2 weeks (a very short period of time) and suddenly judgement day had finally arrived. I was feeling all sorts of emotions but mostly, I was nervous and excited. I knew deep down that I could do it but a small part of me was afraid that I wasn’t going to meet my goal. With the help of a great team of girls to cheer me, I was determined to do it. Running (and walking a very small portion of it) felt incredible. I had set a goal for myself and I did it!! Crossing that finish line was one of the best feelings I have had in a long time. I cannot wait to do it again!!!

First 5k Complete!!! 37:32. (me~second from the left)
Couldn’t have done it with the help of these girls!!!
Favorite Thanksgiving side dish~ I know it may sound a little boring, but my all time favorite thing to eat on Thanksgiving (and any other day) is- mashed potatoes! I absolutely love them and they taste even more delicious on Turkey Day. I’m not a sweet eater per se, bring on the carbs.
For the perfect mashed potatoes, I use Yukon gold potatoes (with or without the skin), milk, butter, and salt. De-lish.
Favorite treat ~ I know I just said that I’m not a sweet eater- as in cookies, pies, etc- but I am a candy eater sometimes. This week I had a complete weakness for Sour Patch Watermelon slices. I don’t know what got into me, but I had two bags this week! If you’ve never had these, you must try them.
Hope you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving!!
xo
Awesome job on the 5K!!! What’s next..a 10K!? 😉
Thanks!!!! I’m hoping to run a few more 5k(s) and reduce my time a little each time.
