The other night I was browsing around on Pinterest (shocker!) and I came across this pin that said, 101 Fashion Rules. So I clicked on and read the post. It was brilliant and obvious at the same time. However I got to thinking, it’s not brilliant and obvious to everyone and these are things people should know and follow.
As I was reading, I made notes of A-ha moments or comments to myself. I hope with people reading it and being exposed to this fabulous information, there will be less confusion on what to do and how to style/wear certain things.
Here are some of my A-ha moments. Enjoy!
Rules I most certainly already follow:
#92 “Always organize your clothes going light to dark from left to right in your closet. Your eye will follow the color and thus help you stay organized.” — Melanie Charlton Fascitelli, Founder, Clos-ette and Clos-ette Too.
Can we say genius!!! If you don’t already do this in your closet, I highly suggest you do! It will make your closet look organized and pretty at the same time.
#89 “If you don’t have time to try on jeans in the store, try the Neck Method: You can determine your size by placing the waistline of the jeans around the diameter of your neck. If the waistline of the pant comfortably meets at back of your neck, then the jeans will fit.”— Sarah Ahmed, Creative Director, DL1961 Premium Denim
Haha I used this trick and taught it to men when I worked at Structure for a few years. It gave the lazy guy or the guy who needed to be in and out of the store like lightning but wanted a new outfit quickly and effortlessly, a way to grab those new pair of jeans and be on their merry way. Lol
#44. Still look chic while showing some skin: If you’re wearing a miniskirt or shorts, cover up on top. If your top is skimpy, go for full-coverage bottoms.
Women should always be following this rule!!
#43. Fold jeans like a pro: Lay jeans on a flat surface, fold in half from left to right. Grab the stacked jean legs and fold them in half so the hem of the jeans lines up with the waistband. Fold the jeans in half one more time.
Not sure how else people fold clothes. The thought scares me! I think I may know how to do this because I worked in retail for a long period of time. lol
#32. Freeze jeans inside a plastic bag for two days to zap odor without running them through the washing machine.
I definitely want to try this!!!
#31. Looking for an easy trick to make your bare legs look longer? Try pumps the same color of your skin, which gives give the illusion that your legs extend a few extra inches.
If you didn’t already know this, I’m sorry. Now you do 🙂 It is the best little trick (if you even want to call it a trick)
#24. When it doubt, always choose the smaller denim size, since jeans stretch with wear.
Always do this! Especially if my jeans that I’m buying have lycra in them. They will stretch even more.
#22. The easiest way to make your closet look organized: Buy all the same hangers for everything–same color, same shape.
Love this! And I do it. It may be the true Virgo in me that makes me love it!
#17. Pile on good accessories—scarves, sunglasses, hats, statement jewelry—to instantly transform even the most basic outfit.
I do this on a daily.basis, especially now with fall coming. This is the best season to be wearing your favorite accessories.
#9. Who has the time to hand wash bras? Machine wash them in cold water in a mesh zipper bag and drape them over a hanger to air dry.
My mesh bag is my best friend when it comes time to wash my bras. I always make sure they are clipped so the hooks don’t get caught on the mesh while they’re being washed. I also hang them over my drying rack. Never thought to do a hanger but I’m definitely going to try it.
#5. If you’re unsure about an impulse or sale purchase, leave it at the store. If you’re still thinking about it when you wake up the next day, buy it.
I’m definitely prone for doing this. This is the only way I know I really, really want something. Especially if it’s a big purchase. HOwever, I am also known for making impulse buys. But aren’t we all?! 😉
and last but not least,
#1. There’s nothing cooler than sticking to a signature style you know looks good on you. Slaves to fashion are never chic!
AMEN!!!
Here is the link for the rest of the article. I highly suggest you take a few minutes to read it. It is great!!!!
Do you follow any of these tips and tricks? Or do you have some that didn’t make the list?? I’d love to hear them 🙂
Happy tips and tricks!
xo
#89 ?? Is that true? I have never seen that before.
And yes, to #22 matchy match hangers.
And YES to #5. No impulse buys. I sometimes carry an item around the store with me for a while, and often end up leaving it behind!
Fun read.

89 made me laugh, and now I’m going to test it and tell all my friends if it works. Comedy, but definitely worth telling at parties.
I like the colour in the wardrobe idea, but I tried that with CD cases once at uni and it took me forever to find the right one I wanted, compared with being in alphabetical/genre order. So I’ll be sticking with my dress, tops, skirts, trouser split instead. If I had a bigger wardrobe I’d do colour within that. Does that count?!

Lol yes that counts. Don’t be afraid of color 😉 thanks for stopping by!!
This is a great list. I have heard #89 but I believe it works better for men than women. I also believe that individual style is just that individual. If you are a slave to fashion, you have no individual style.
Stopping by with comment love from the SITS girls!!
