Tupperware bins are out, tree is up and you’re fighting with the lights to get untangled. Tis the holiday season.
It’s that time of year, where we go on our Pinterest boards (if you’re like me) and head over to Hobby Lobby or AC Moore and want to create the next best thing we have pinned. Lucky for you, I actually did just that and have created the most adorable block letters to hang over your fireplace in just a few steps.
The first thing I did was decide what word I wanted to spell out above my fireplace. I pickedĀ JOY.
Then I went to Hobby Lobby and bought the cardboard letters (wood is too heavy), decided on a gold sparkle spray paint and red ribbon. You can pick any color combinations, but I love the way gold and red look this time of year.
Once you have them ready to go, I spray painted them lightly the first time. The sparkle will show right away. I let it dry for a minute or two and then went over it again. After it dries you’ll notice where you need to touch up, especially around the corners of the letters and inside the O.
Once they are completely dry, warm up the hot glue gun. When you are ready, put a small amount on the back of the letters, then press the ribbon down. It will stick immediately. Do this for all 3 letters. For the letter Y, I put it where the two angles meet.
Once the ribbons are attached to all 3 letters, take some of the hooks that you use for ornaments. You will need two for each ribbon. Take the bottom of each hook and hot glue it to the back of the ribbon. I would place them on the edges of the ribbon. Put two hooks just like this one on each of the letters.
After each letter has 2 hooks attached, bend the top of the hooks enough so they will reach over the frame. I wanted my letters to be different lengths so I had to adjust the curve.
And that’s it!!!! Quick, affordable and fun to do!!!
Have you made any at home decorations that were fun and easy to do?
