It’s day 6 in the 31 Day March Blog Challenge and I’m supposed to write about my last random act of kindness. I’m going to be honest, I actually had to think about what I’ve done for someone without even thinking twice about it. I know I do a lot of things on a daily basis but every now and then I like to do something a little bit more worthwhile.
As I thought about my list, this one came to mind. For the past couple of weeks, every time I enter a supermarket, Target or a store, I have been making it more of a point than usual to make eye contact with the cashier/clerk and talk with them. We have those days when we’re in a rush and just want to be in and out of the store, but lately, in my mind, I always have the quote “one nice word can change someone’s whole day.” Just that simple act of taking the time to talk to them and acknowledging them is all you need to do to maybe brighten someone’s day.
Once being in their shoes, I know what it’s like to have to work with the public, and let me tell you it isn’t always a fun time. People assume you’re not smart or educated and this is what you’re life is- a cashier. And I know for a fact that statement isn’t true. I’m not saying that this is society as a whole, but I know it’s a good majority and it isn’t right. So next time you’re at a store or running in and out of somewhere, just take the time to even just smile at them and say hello. Acknowledge that they’re there. You don’t know what they are going through, and sometimes all you need is someone to just do something simple to change your outlook on your whole day.
What have you done lately?
xo
Good point! We certainly don’t know what people are going through, and sometimes just a smile can help turn things around for them. I also had the chance to work with the public while going to college. You’re right. It’s unfortunate, but people aren’t always necessarily very nice. :=( Stopping by from the link-up and now following you! 🙂
Thank you for stopping by and now the follow!! I’m really enjoying the blog challenge and today’s challenge definitely had me thinking. 🙂
I try to do that as much as possible. Especially when the person in front of me is being very rude and not nice. I always ask my cashier about their day. I feel they are often overlooked as people and seen more as robots checking us out. And I always tell them I hope they have a great rest of the day. I think they appreciate it.
Me too. I’ve always done it, but I’ve been making more of an effort. Sometimes in life we over look things and we really should stop and appreciate those around us.
